TBU DOES NOT INJECT:
If the tape drive does inject or accept media, here are the steps and
URL to update the firmware to potentially resolve this issue.
1. Download and run the top two files:
http://downloads.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?param=dds4&st=kw
This will create two folders under c:\cabs\ where the below referenced
files will be found.
2. Stop any Tape Backup services as follows:
- If Backup Exec is installed, Run c:\program
files\veritas\backupexec\nt\bestop.bat. Next, go to Start, Programs,
Accessories, Command Prompt, and type net stop ntmssvc.
- If Tapeware is installed, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, Command
Prompt, and type net stop tapeware.
- If no backup software is installed, go to Start, Programs,
Accessories, Command Prompt, and type net stop ntmssvc.
3. Run the taperx.exe and identify the Firmware = 9030-000 (old
firmware)
4. Run the Upgrade Firmware option and browse to the .bin file in the
other folder that was created under c:\cabs. The update will take
approximately 2 minutes and when it is done the firmware revision should
show 910B-000.
5. Attempt to insert a tape. If a tape is not accepted, hold the Eject
button on the drive until all lights blink, then retry inserting a tape.
If the drive still does not accept tapes, shut down the server. Turn on
the server while holding the eject button on the tape drive, then
attempt to insert the tape during bootup.
6. Reboot the server to ensure that all services start backup.
Otherwise:
- If Backup Exec is installed, Run c:\program
files\veritas\backupexec\nt\bestart.bat. Next, go to Start, Programs,
Accessories, Command Prompt, and type net start ntmssvc.
- If Tapeware is installed, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, Command
Prompt, and type net start tapeware.
- If no backup software is installed, go to Start, Programs,
Accessories, Command Prompt, and type net start ntmssvc.
