Seagate TBU Maintenance and Veritas Configuration Suggestions:

There are additional configurations recommended in veritas as follows:

- Use Hardware compression for the backup jobs. 
- Do not attempt to Retension the media after backup

Here are the pointers on maintaining the tape drive:

- If you backup once per day, clean the drive once per week.
- Replace your cartridges once per year
- Clean the drive after the first two backups when using a new media
cartridge.
- Do not attempt to retension your tapes
- If taking tapes offsite, do not store in a hot/cold place such as in a
car, and keep away from magnets including monitors.
- Do not attempt to blow compressed air directly into the tape entry
slot.
